Custom Projects
We receive a high volume of requests for custom jewelry pieces — so much so that, as a small team, it’s difficult to get through all of them. Below, we’ve outlined what you need to know about Kindred’s process before making a request.
Please note that Kindred does not work with client-provided materials. That includes stones, metals, and any other elements of a piece. She also does not work with lab-grown stones. Her minimum timeline is six months.
Step 1
Submit a detailed request: When reaching out, make sure to include your budget and timeline, your preferred stone(s) and cut(s), and any aesthetic preferences. It’s also helpful to include images, especially examples of Kindred’s past work similar to what you’re looking for.
Step 2
Consultation: If Kindred has availability and the project is a good fit, we will reach out to you to schedule an initial consultation with Kindred, via Zoom. This is where you’ll discuss the project in more detail, make a plan, and set a projected budget. Once the budget is in place, you’ll pay a deposit which goes toward the final cost of the piece.
Step 3
Stone selection: This a bespoke, intentional process in which Kindred will hunt for the perfect stone(s). You’ll receive detailed videos and GIA reports where available, and in-person viewings can be scheduled as well. Once the stone is selected, you’ll pay for it in full.
Step 4
Design: Kindred will then design the piece around the stone(s) and the previously discussed design preferences, sharing sketches and renderings as needed. This process takes time, so it may be a few weeks after stone selection before you receive the first designs. You’ll be able to provide feedback and make adjustments before the design is finalized.
Step 5
Making the jewelry: Once the design is finalized, Kindred will make the custom piece. Once finished, you’ll pay the remaining costs for labor and any additional materials (metals, smaller stones, et cetera).
Step 6
Delivery: Your final piece can be picked up from the studio in New York, securely shipped, or, in some cases, hand-delivered.
